There are 100’s of makes & models of mobility scooters out there in today’s market. Getting the specifications wrong for your specific needs, could result in the scooter not being suitable for where you want to use it.
WEIGHT CAPACITY
It’s very important to consider the carrying capacity of the mobility scooter. The Travel Scooters typically have a smaller motor, resulting in less power to climb hills especially being used by a heavier person.
Always check the user weight is not over the recommended maximum carrying weight of the scooter.
DISTANCE
Distance all depends on the condition and size of the batteries. The bigger the scooter, the bigger the batteries tend to be. Make sure the batteries of any second hand mobility scooter that you may buy have a good capacity condition.
Mobility scooter batteries are expensive to replace so bear that in mind if buying privately.
TOP SPEED
The maximum allowed speed for a mobility scooter is 12km/h. However, many people prefer to cruise along carefully at a comfortable walking speed.
Top speed is for the open roads when there is no risk of accidents with pedestrians.
LENGTH & WIDTH
Even though mobility scooters are designed with many varying lengths and widths, they all fall into the universal width of a standard door frame.
Consider if your scooter needs to enter an elevator. If so, measure the inside of the elevator with closed doors to find the maximum length your mobility scooter can be.
